Biography
David is a lawyer, Lean practice management advisor, and senior management executive with more than 20 years experience in the legal, venture capital, and biotechnology industries. He is a co-founder of and principal at Gimbal Lean Practice Management Advisors, specialists in Lean and continuous improvement in professional service firms and public sector institutions.
A certified Lean Six Sigma expert, David is an author, speaker, university and CLE lecturer, and process improvement facilitator who applies Lean to the practice and the business of professional service firms. Gimbal's workshops and other educational programs are accredited by the True Value Partnering Institute in the US, and internationally by the International Institute of Legal Project Managers.
In addition to teaching Lean and process improvement to thousands of lawyers and other professionals across North America, David will be teaching a course on legal innovation and technology at McGill University’s Faculty of Law in February 2020.
Education: BA from Williams College, Williamstown, Massachusetts. Bachelor of Common Law (LL.B.) and Bachelor of Civil Law (B.C.L.) from McGill University’s Faculty of Law. Certified Lean Six Sigma Sensei from Villanova University. David is a member of the Massachusetts and New York Bars, and was a member of the Quebec bar for 25 years.
David is often joined on his CPD courses, webinars, and workshops, by his colleague, Karen Dunn Skinner. Karen is a lawyer, professional editor, and Lean Six Sigma Black Belt with over 20 years of international experience in corporate-commercial, regulatory, and education law. With David, she is a co-founder of and a principal at Gimbal.
Karen offers clients a powerful combination of legal experience and process improvement skills. Since founding Gimbal, she has taught Lean thinking and process improvement to thousands of lawyers and other professionals across North America and, in February 2020, she’ll be teaching a course on legal innovation and technology at McGill’s Faculty of Law. She speaks and writes regularly on the application of Lean in the legal profession, and facilitates projects that improve the practice and the business of professional service firms.
Karen worked for years as a professional editor. She teaches powerful writing and editing techniques to business professionals who want to communicate clearly and concisely with their clients and colleagues. Karen offers a 3-part series on writing for business professionals as part of CPDFormula's program.
